There are habits in the world today that can harm your child’s smile, unfortunately, and our dentist, Dr. James N. Aldridge Jr., strongly encourages you to help your child avoid those at all costs. That way they can have strong and healthy teeth and gums as well as a top-notch oral health and smile. To help you help your child, he is happy to list the habits to avoid here:

-Not protecting the smile with a mouthguard when participating in high-contact sports and activities

-Not having a proper oral hygiene routine

-Not visiting the dentist every six months

-Eating foods and drinking drinks that are harmful to the smile, like sugary and acidic products

-Ignoring cavities

-Overusing or misusing teeth whitening treatments

-Using the teeth to open packaging or rip of a tag

-Biting the nails (This habit can fracture the tooth enamel)

-Brushing too hard (This can irritate the gums and even wear down the tooth enamel)

-Flossing vigorously (It’s important to be gentle as you floss around the gums otherwise the tissues can get damaged)

-Constantly snacking (If you snack throughout the day, it doesn’t give the teeth the chance to rejuvenate)
